OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma appeals court has upheld the life prison sentence of a 23-year-old man convicted in the shooting death of another man outside a northwest Oklahoma City convenience store.
The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals handed down the decision Tuesday in the case of Joseph Young. Young was convicted of first-degree murder by an Oklahoma County jury in the December 2011 shooting death of 18-year-old Dejoun Chamberless.
Chamberless was found shot to death in the store’s parking lot. A second victim was found wounded nearby and was treated and released at a hospital. In addition to a life prison sentence for murder, Young was sentenced to 15 years in prison for assault with a deadly weapon.
Young’s attorney, Traci Quick, did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
