RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A former leader of the Black Panther Party is set to speak at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The university says activist and author Elaine Brown will deliver a lecture on modern social justice March 5. The event at VCU’s Grace Street Theater is free and open to the public.

Brown is the co-founder of the National Alliance for Radical Prison Reform, Mothers Advocating Juvenile Justice and the nonprofit education organization Field of Flowers. She has written two books and has two others coming out soon.

Brown’s lecture is part of an initiative to promote community engagement sponsored by VCU’s Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute.
