EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Police have raided a downtown Everett, Wash., mini-mart and arrested the business owner for investigation of food stamp fraud.
The Daily Herald reports (https://is.gd/q1QTVy ) police suspect the operator of the A-1 Smoke & Grocery store was paying people cents on the dollar for access to their state food benefit cards.
He also is suspected of buying and selling merchandise shoplifted from other stores. Lt. Jim Duffy says he would give shopping lists to alcoholics and drug addicts.
Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell says 34-year-old Fraz Mushtaq was arrested at his home. He was booked for investigation of food-stamp trafficking, trafficking in stolen property and delivering a controlled substance. The spokesman says 37-year-old Ayaz Ahmed was also arrested Tuesday for investigation of trafficking in stolen property.
