LOS ANGELES (AP) - “Die Hard” director John McTiernan is free from federal prison in South Dakota. He served most of a one-year sentence for lying about his association with a private investigator to illegally wiretap a movie producer.
After his release Tuesday, attorneys filed a complaint in Philadelphia with the Department of Justice’s Office of Professional Responsibility over the way his case was handled.
Lawyers claim McTiernan was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit based on conduct that’s not a crime. He pleaded guilty to two counts of making false statements to the FBI. He pleaded guilty to one count of perjury for lying to a judge while trying to withdraw a guilty plea.
Besides “Die Hard,” McTiernan also directed “Predator,” ’’The Hunt for Red October” and “The Thomas Crown Affair.”
