DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - A Decatur man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in a crash that killed a junior high school counselor.

Hugh Kennedy Chandler was sentenced Tuesday in the 2011 death of Terry White.

The Decatur Daily reports Chandler pleaded guilty to murder in October and admitted that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The newspaper reports Chandler had five prior DUI convictions.

Investigators have said Chandler ran a red light and struck the car White was riding in. White also taught math at Priceville Junior High for nearly 30 years before his death.
