OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (AP) - A 28-year-old Olive Branch woman faces charges in the death of her 2-year-old stepson who died last month from injuries that police called “severe and suspicious.”

Authorities say Patricia Gale Redman could face the death penalty if convicted of capital murder in the death of the boy who died Jan. 22 at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.

Olive Branch Police Chief Don Gammage told The Commercial Appeal (https://bit.ly/1cx0RPT ) that the stepmother had only been married to the boy’s father for two weeks.

Gammage said the boy’s stepmother remains in the DeSoto County Jail under no bond. Her first court appearance will be Tuesday in city court in Olive Branch.

It was unclear whether Redman has an attorney.
