Political career: He was elected to the state Assembly in 2002, to the Senate in 2006 and is termed out of office after this year. Previously served as an Assembly aide.
District: 30th Senate District, which includes the cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, East La Mirada, Huntington Park, La Mirada, Montebello, Norwalk, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, Whittier and South El Monte, as well as portions of East Los Angeles, Los Angeles and South Gate.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCLA; attended Western State University of Law.

Tom Calderon, D-Montebello
Age: 59
Political career: He was elected to the state Assembly in 1998 but gave up the seat in 2002 to make an unsuccessful bid for state insurance commissioner, losing in the Democratic primary. He was succeeded by his brother, Ron. Previously served five years on the Montebello Unified School District Board of Education, and as a congressional and Assembly aide.
District: 58th Assembly District, which before the 2010 redistricting included East Los Angeles, Montebello, Pico Rivera and parts of Downey and Whittier.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara.
