OSCEOLA, Ark. (AP) - Officials in Osceola are suing Entergy Arkansas over claims that the utility improperly billed the city $5 million.
Mayor Dickie Kennemore says the city’s lawyers evaluated billing from 2007 through 2009 and arrived at the $5 million figure, not including interest.
Jonesboro television station KAIT reports (https://is.gd/mcIa6i ) that Kennemore says Osceola had a contract that was identical to one by Union Electric, which won a lawsuit against Entergy for alleged overcharges.
Entergy was the city’s wholesale provider for power for nearly three decades until the city switched companies in 2009.
Kennemore says the city council authorized spending up to $25,000 to hire an additional consultant to strengthen the case.
Trial is set for May 19.
