ROLLING FORK, Miss. (AP) - The former town clerk of Anguilla has pleaded guilty to one felony count of grand larceny.
Manika Kelly had been indicted for embezzlement of $107,444 from the city. She had been scheduled to stand trial on Sept. 16.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering says in a news release that the 35-year-old Kelly pleaded guilty Jan. 6 in Sharkey County. She was sentenced Jan. 13 to a 10-year suspended prison sentence and five years’ supervised probation.
Pickering says Kelly was accused of taking the money from the town over a five-year period from October 2006 through November 2011.
Pickering returned $108,000 to the town of Anguilla on Jan. 8, which was the full amount for which Kelly was bonded.
