JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A measure declaring Nov. 14 Walter A. Soboleff Day is going to the House floor for a vote.

KINY reports (https://bit.ly/1c8rBVu) the measure honoring the Tlingit leader moved out of the House State Affairs Committee Thursday after hearing testimony from his four children.

Soboleff died in 2011 at age 102. He was the first Alaska Native minister in Juneau during a period of racial segregation.

The Sealaska Heritage Institute broke ground on the Walter Soboleff Center in August 2013. The downtown Juneau center will also house the Sealaska Heritage Institute, where Soboleff devoted so much of his life’s work.

The center is projected to be completed in late 2014.
