LUDINGTON, Mich. (AP) - A state trooper says he wounded a man who was suspected of earlier fatally shooting a fellow trooper in northern Michigan.
Trooper Steven Arendt testified Thursday in the trial of Eric Knysz (NIZE) in Ludington.
The 20-year-old defendant is charged with first-degree murder of a peace officer in the killing of Trooper Paul Butterfield II during a traffic stop in September.
Arendt says he and fellow law enforcement officers spotted a gun-wielding Knysz at a gas station. Arendt says he shot Knysz in the leg.
Thursday marked the second day of testimony in the trial.
Defense lawyer David Glancy reminded jurors Wednesday that Knysz is presumed innocent.
The 43-year-old Butterfield was the son of a state police officer and a high school cross country champion.
