PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Ameren Illinois says power is being restored to customers in central Illinois who lost it when a line of storms moved across the area.

The utility reported about 32,000 customers were without power Thursday afternoon. That number dropped to 13,800 by Thursday night. Affected areas included central, southern and eastern Illinois. That includes the Peoria and Pekin area, Urbana and south of Danville, Decatur, Shelbyville and the Illinois suburbs of St. Louis.

Ameren officials say they have crews assessing damage. They say they don’t have an estimation time that power will be completely restored.

Ameren says it has about 1.2 million customers in the areas where outages were reported.
