LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Philander Smith College in Little Rock is looking for a new leader for the traditionally black school.

The college announced Thursday that Johnny Moore has resigned so he can “pursue other personal and professional opportunities.”

The school’s board announced Moore’s hiring in July 2012 but he didn’t formally begin the job until May 3, 2013.

Artee Williams, chairman of Philander Smith’s board, says Moore will still have strong ties to the campus as “a valued alumnus and much-honored former athlete.”

A search for a new president is to begin soon. The board named Lloyd Harvey as interim president.
