LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - An initial version of the 2014-15 Lafayette Parish school calendar includes fewer classroom days for students.

As it stands now, Karen Williams, the district’s director of academics, says students would attend school for 171 days next year. Williams says that’s three fewer instructional days than this year. Teachers would work 182 days next year, including several days for in-services and training sessions.

The Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1bOywH2 ) the calendar was presented to the Lafayette Parish School Board on Wednesday.

Although some tweaks could be made, Williams said several people were involved in creating the calendar, including parents, teachers, principals, district staff and others.
