SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A preliminary court hearing is scheduled for Friday morning for Craig Michael Wood, the man accused of abducting and killing a Missouri fourth-grade girl.
The Greene County prosecutor’s office says the hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. Friday. Wood is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and armed criminal action. Online court records show he does not yet have an attorney. He is jailed without bond.
Ten-year-old Hailey Owens was abducted Tuesday while walking along a street in Springfield, about a block from her home. Witnesses who saw the abduction gave police information that led to the suspect later that night.
Hailey’s body was found in the basement of the home of Wood, a middle school football coach. She had been shot in the head.
