CHICAGO (AP) - First came dozens of inches of snow, now comes the flooding.
Cook County emergency officials say they’re preparing generators, sandbags and water pumps as weather forecasters predict flooding in the area in coming days.
The Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management says it’s working with the county’s transportation department and the Forest Preserve to help communities prepare for flooding.
Forecasters are calling for temperatures in the 50s that will melt the winter snow pack, as well as heavy rains over the next few days.
The National Weather Service issued an advisory for the Chicago area on Wednesday warning that ice and snow may not melt fast enough to keep the city’s drainage system open. Even so, street crews are racing to clear catch basins of debris.
