HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - The defense in former Southaven Mayor Greg Davis’ embezzlement case has filed a motion to change the venue of the trial set to start Monday at the courthouse in Hernando.

The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1gZpRQM) a hearing for Circuit Court Judge Robert Chamberlin to hear the motion has been set at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Davis, who served as mayor of Southaven for 16 years, was indicted by the state in 2012 on embezzlement charges.

The three-count indictment charged Davis with embezzlement by a public official linked to his city-leased vehicle and using city gasoline in the vehicle, a 2007 Ford Expedition, even though he was getting a monthly mileage check.
