CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) - Gov. Gary Hebert has appointed a Cedar City lawyer to fill a vacancy on the bench of the 5th District Court in southern Utah.
The governor picked Keith Barnes for the slot to be left open March 31 when Judge James Shumate plans to retire.
The judicial appointment is subject to approval of the Utah Senate.
Barnes has been the owner and lead attorney for Barnes Law Offices in Cedar City for 20 years. Herbert says he has a reputation of treating all people fairly.
The district covers Iron, Beaver and Washington counties.
