FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - The body of former Alaska territorial Gov. Mike Stepovich has been returned to Fairbanks ahead of next week’s services.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (https://is.gd/HDTckw) family members, Alaska State Troopers, airport police and a representative of the Army were on hand to greet the flag-draped coffin as it arrived late Wednesday afternoon.

The 94-year-old former governor died last Friday at a San Diego hospital. He was appointed by President Eisenhower as governor in 1957, a position he held for a year before resigning.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Feb. 28 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Fairbanks.
