DETROIT (AP) - Wayne State University is hosting an exhibition that gives a Canadian view of the War of 1812 that pitted British North American forces against the U.S.
The traveling exhibition titled “1812” is on display through Feb. 18 at the David Adamany Undergraduate Library.
The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa produced the exhibition, which comes to Detroit through the efforts of the Consulate General of Canada in Detroit.
The university says the exhibition explores the War of 1812 through the perspectives of white and native Canadians, U.S. people, the British and Native Americans.
Wayne State says U.S. people have generally viewed the war as “a successful defense against the British Empire,” while Canadians see it as “a successful fight for survival against American invasions.”
