BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul Page and First Lady Ann LePage are honoring Maine National Guard soldiers who recently returned from a nearly year-long deployment in Afghanistan.
Eight soldiers of the Detachment 14 Operational Support Airlift Command unit were thanked for their service during a Freedom Salute ceremony in Bangor, where the unit is stationed.
LePage and Adjutant General James Campbell public recognized the sacrifice of the soldiers, their families and their employers and friends during their deployment.
The governor told the soldiers that he and the state are proud of them and their service to Maine and the country.
The mission of the aviation support unit includes transportation, surveillance and intelligence gathering.
