MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Republicans are calling for delaying the requirement that small businesses sign up for health insurance through the Vermont Health Connect exchange, while Gov. Peter Shumlin continues to say state officials are working hard to get the exchange website fully functional.

The give-and-take came during press conferences on Wednesday, which marked more of a restatement of issues that breaking new ground.

Shumlin administration officials say they’re unsure they’ll be able to meet a demand from some business leaders that enrollment in the exchange through the website be voluntary even if the website gets up and running later this year.

Lt. Gov. Phil Scott, co-owner of a construction company, says his employees are among those unhappy with the changes in health insurance. He says there’s too much uncertainty.
