SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - Southaven officials have approved $19,000 in improvements to the Greenbrook Softball Complex.

But during Tuesday’s the discussion about plans to build a gift shop, a cooking pavilion and a cash control room at the park, The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1fd2PHG) officials for the first time revealed that the city’s $35 million proposed master plan for park improvements won’t happen as envisioned.

Mayor Darren Musselwhite said the revenue from Penny for Parks is not enough to do the projects.

Musselwhite said with the tax only bringing in $760,000 a year and this coupled with the repealer clause that would cause the tax to expire this summer, the city can’t issue revenue bonds to make the major park improvements.
