PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A suburban Portland man has been sentenced to five years in prison for stabbing a stranger in the abdomen when the stranger tried to stop him from assaulting his wife.
The stranger survived.
The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/Oa0LNh) that 45-year-old Pedro Nunez-Valdivia of Gresham earlier pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon constituting domestic violence and to attempted second-degree assault. He was sentenced Wednesday.
Kit Haberman was walking by last Nov. 29 when he saw a man and a woman under some trees and realized they were in a physical fight. Haberman intervened to protect the woman.
After the convicted man’s prison term is up, he could face deportation. The newspaper says immigration officials have placed a hold on him.
