AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A police video shows a former software engineer asking if he could get the death penalty for the April 2012 fatal shooting of a Central Texas police officer.

A Travis County jury viewed video Wednesday of Brandon Daniel sitting in the back of a patrol car after the shooting of Austin police Officer Jaime Padron (HYE’-may pah-DROHN’).

The shooting happened at an Austin Wal-Mart as Padron was checking out a reported shoplifting.

In the video, Daniel is heard asking an officer, “Can I get the lethal injection? Is it possible?” Receiving no response, Daniel said in a low voice, “I’ll probably go away the rest of my life.”

As the car headed to police headquarters, Daniel says, “I am glad he is dead. I will see you in hell.”
