MANHATTAN, Ill. (AP) - A Chicago area man is facing charges after authorities say they found hundreds of marijuana plants growing in a basement.

The Joliet Herald-News reports (https://bit.ly/1oRorw5 ) authorities found 639 marijuana plants in the basement of a Manhattan home in Will County.

Will County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer says the basement was divided into various growing rooms with “elaborate electrical, venting and irrigation systems.”



She says the plants had a street value of about $350,000.

A 52-year-old man facing a series of drug charges and is being held on $50,000 bond. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.

Manhattan is about 30 miles southwest of Chicago.
