TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - The mayor of New Jersey’s capital city is fighting to stay in office after being convicted on federal corruption charges.
Trenton Mayor Tony Mack’s office sent a statement Tuesday to The Times of Trenton (https://bit.ly/1d0tfa3 ) confirming that he would fight the state Attorney General’s Office’s request to have a judge remove him from office. The statement criticized the effort to oust him as “subjective actions.”
A court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 26.
Mack was convicted by a jury on Feb. 7 of participating in a scheme to take bribes in exchange for advancing a development deal. The scheme was set up by investigators as part of a sting.
Mack appeared briefly at a City Council meeting Tuesday in his first public appearance in City Hall since his conviction.
