FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - A state regulatory agency will hear public testimony later this week about a proposed increase in steam heat rates in downtown Fairbanks.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (https://is.gd/s5jyuq) the Regulatory Commission of Alaska will take public testimony Friday night on the request form Aurora Energy.

Aurora is seeking to nearly double the amount it charges to about 70 downtown customers. The current rate is $10.50 per thousand pounds of steam, and they are seeking to increase that charge to $20.45 per thousand pounds.

The hearing will be held from 6-10 p.m. Friday at the Fairbanks North Star Borough assembly chambers.
