DETROIT (AP) - Flooding from a water main break has forced some street closures in downtown Detroit around Campus Martius.

Water flowed from underground onto the streets before dawn Tuesday. WWJ-AM reports crews stopped the flow later Tuesday morning.

The Detroit News reports the problem is with an 8-inch main, which forced crews to shut off the water at the First National Building and close food-related businesses in that building.

Such breaks have been common in Detroit amid the persistent cold. Last week, a broken water main flooded a several-block area in southwest Detroit.

Recent water main breaks also have caused problems in other Michigan communities.
