MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (AP) - A small private liberal arts college in eastern Iowa has announced construction plans for a $10 million renovation project of four residence halls.

Cornell College in Mount Vernon says the project to update the dorms will begin in May after the academic year is completed. Construction will be done in phases and continue through August of 2015.

The renovations include themed lounges for each dorm. There will be new flooring, lighting and furniture. Entrances and patios will get a lift. Electrical, heating and plumbing will be replaced.

The four residence halls were built in the 1960s and currently house about 300 students.

Members of the college’s Board of Trustees have helped fund the project. The college is still raising some money.
