CANBY, Ore. (AP) - Police say one of three men arrested in the weekend shooting death of a Grants Pass man in Canby, Ore., is the son of a convicted murderer.

The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/x6kOVX) that Canby Police Chief Bret Smith said officers arrested 31-year-old Francis Paul Weaver of Canby on Tuesday for investigation of murder. The newspaper says Francis Weaver is the son of Ward Weaver III, who is serving a life sentence for killing two young girls in 2002 and hiding their bodies in Oregon City.

Smith says an investigation shows that 43-year-old Edward Spangler of Grants Pass visited a Canby apartment complex on Sunday to complete a drug deal. During the deal, three men tried to rob Spangler and he was shot multiple times. Police say Spangler was later found next to his SUV, which had crashed into a tree in a nearby park.

Arrested earlier for investigation in the case were 27-year-old Michael Orren and 32-year-old Shannon Bettencourt.
