HARRISON, N.J. (AP) - A longtime northern New Jersey mayor who died after collapsing in his town hall office has been laid to rest.

The Jersey Journal (https://bit.ly/NZv01T) reports that hundreds of mourners gathered Monday for the funeral of Harrison Mayor Raymond McDonough, who apparently suffered a massive heart attack on Wednesday afternoon. He was found by an attorney who had an appointment with him.

The lifelong Harrison resident served on the Town Council for 17 years before becoming mayor in 1995. He was credited with spearheading the redevelopment of the 1.2-square-mile Hudson County town on the Passaic River, which has about 14,000 residents.

McDonough was plumber and was retired from the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission. He was among several Democratic officials statewide who supported Republican Gov. Chris Christie for re-election last year.
