COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - The Lowndes County School Board is closing in on the purchase of a 12-acre tract for the site of a proposed career technical center would be built.

The Commercial Dispatch reported (https://bit.ly/1ouS6Ll) appraisals have been done on two sites, both near the intersection of Lehmberg Road and Mississippi Highway 50.

One of the properties, an 18-acre parcel owned by Ralph Youngblood, appraised for $380,000. Youngblood asked the county school board for $472,000, according to architect Joey Henderson.

The other property, a parcel of about 12.7 acres owned by Lott Ventures, appraised at $430,000. Lott Ventures, managed by T.E. Lott, was asking for $761,000 for the site, according to Henderson.

The board is expected to make a final decision shortly.

Youngblood disputed the appraised value of his property and said he found the dollar amount unacceptable, according to a letter he sent the school board. Youngblood did, however, say he was willing to negotiate with the board.

Lott Ventures also sent a letter to the school board regarding the appraisal and amended its previous offer to match the appraised value of $430,000.

Henderson said board attorney Jeff Smith and Lott Ventures are in negotiations regarding the property.
