RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The snow totals are in from North Carolina’s latest winter storm, which dumped as much as 22 inches in the mountains.

Meteorologist Mike Strickler of the National Weather Service in Raleigh says 22 inches fell on Mount Mitchell in Yancey County, the tallest peak in the eastern United States. In lower-elevation counties near the mountain, such as Surry, Yadkin, Wilkes and Alleghany, 12 to 20 inches fell. Up to 18 inches of snow fell in Statesville, and to the south, in Charlotte, 4 to 6 inches were reported.

Strickler says the Triad area of Winston-Salem, Greensboro and High Point got snowfall amounts in the 6- to 8-inch range. About 5 inches to 8 inches fell in the Research Triangle area of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.
