BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts is preparing for another winter storm, with heavy wet snow, rain and wind.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for central and western areas Thursday. Up to 18 inches of snow could fall there, with widespread totals of 10 to 14 inches expected. Most schools are closed in that part of the state, including Springfield and Worcester.

Coastal areas, including Boston, and southeastern Massachusetts, are under winter weather and wind advisories for between 4 and 6 inches of snow and winds gusting to 45 mph as warmer ocean air mixes in rain. Cape Cod and nearby islands are expected to see only an inch or two of snow, but gusts up to 55 mph.

Snow is expected to begin spreading from the south around 5 a.m., then mix with rain as temperatures rise later.
