CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Winter is forecast to make one last mark on North Carolina.

The storm system that brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to the state is heading into Virginia on Thursday, but also is expected to dump more snow on North Carolina.

The wraparound effect of the storm will bring more snow to the Piedmont and foothills, adding up to 3 inches to what fell Wednesday.

The storm is also now taking aim at the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

When the brunt of the storm reached North Carolina, it dropped ice on five southeastern counties, stymied traffic in the Research Triangle area, and left other areas coated with snow.
