PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island is preparing for another winter storm that forecasters say could bring four to six inches of snow to the state.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch starting Thursday morning. It says heavy snow could be followed by rain Thursday afternoon.
Schools in several communities including Providence, Cranston, Warwick and Woonsocket are closed Thursday.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee said state government will be in full operation Thursday, but its adverse weather policy will be in effect for shifts beginning or ending during the storm’s expected peak. Workers who aren’t able to come to work or need to leave early because of the weather may get a supervisor’s approval to take a day of paid or unpaid leave.
Several communities have issued parking bans ahead of the storm, including Smithfield, North Providence, Woonsocket and Middletown.
