HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Metro-North Railroad has reduced service due to the winter storm headed to the Northeast.
The commuter rail line says it’s cutting service on Thursday to 75 percent of regular train runs. It expects fewer riders as commuters stay home and wants to reduce the impact of the storm on equipment, tracks and other parts of the rail operation.
Metro-North says riders will get to their destinations within 10 to 15 minutes of their normal time.
Metro-North uses special third-rail shoes to clear off snow and ice buildup. The commuter railroad said it will pay particular attention to the New Haven line’s overhead catenary wires that are vulnerable to ice and snow.
The railroad also has treated door panels with anti-freeze agents and put in place rail-mounted snow-fighting equipment.
