ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a former Wasilla contract mail carrier to nine years in prison for stealing mail and distributing drugs.

The Anchorage Daily News (https://bit.ly/ML7eW2) reports Brenda Sue Cox pleaded guilty in September to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and heroin and removing mail from her route.

U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler (LEF’-lur) says Judge Sharon Gleason on Monday ordered the nine-year prison term.

Loeffler says Cox from August to October 2012 took delivery of about a dozen packages addressed to businesses that did not exist. The packages contained methamphetamine and heroin.

Prosecutors say she was found with hundreds of pieces of undelivered mail and packages at her home and in a storage area.

She was ordered to pay $1,949.92 in restitution.
