MERCED, Calif. (AP) - Sheriff’s officials say a Central Valley county employee offered to reduce the amount of money someone owed the county if a woman would go out with him.
Anthony Thompson was arrested and booked into Merced County Jail on Tuesday on suspicion of felony bribery. County officials say the 53-year-old Thompson is employed as a collection’s supervisor at the county revenue and reimbursement department.
Merced County Sheriff’s Deputy Delray Shelton told the Merced Sun-Star (https://bit.ly/1dIxiXZ) Thompson offered to manipulate an account in exchange for dates. Shelton said it was not clear whether the account belonged to the woman he was seeking to go out with or one of her family members.
A person who answered the phone on Wednesday at a listing for Thompson hung up when asked about the arrest.
