ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - A mother and daughter are dead after a house fire in north Alabama.

Authorities in Limestone County say a son who lived in the basement went upstairs to find flames in the house about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Sheriff Mike Blakely says the son found the two others unresponsive and got them out of the house.

Officials haven’t released the victims’ names, but they identify them as a woman and her daughter.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.
