BARTOW, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida woman has pleaded no contest in her husband’s fatal shooting.
With her trial set for next week, 57-year-old Sheree Peters pleaded no contest Tuesday to manslaughter, tampering with physical evidence and possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Without a plea deal in place, she faces up to 40 years in prison when she is sentenced March 28.
Authorities say Peters killed her husband, 62-year-old James Dennis Peters, in November 2012. She claimed he threatened and attacked her before the shooting, but a judge rejected the woman’s “stand your ground” claim during a hearing last month.
The Ledger of Lakeland (https://goo.gl/obs1N0) reports Sheree Peters didn’t report the death and left his body in the hallway of their home until relatives discovered it two weeks later.
