MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) - Officials at Southern Arkansas University and the University of Arkansas campus at Hope say they are shutting the campuses because of worsening weather.
Forecasters are predicting a mix of freezing rain and sleet for the area Tuesday afternoon and evening. A statement from SAU said it was closing its administrative offices and calling off classes at 4 p.m.
The school had previously called off classes for Tuesday night due to approaching bad weather.
The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope and its counterpart at Texarkana say they are closing early.
Arkansas highway officials reported that roads in southwestern Arkansas had patches of ice on them, and sleet was reported between Hope and Texarkana.
