FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) - A Connecticut man has been sentenced to three years in prison for having sexual contact with a child in 2008 while he lived in Maine.

David Rhoades, of Taftville, Conn., was sentenced Monday in Franklin County Superior Court to serve three years of a 10-year sentence and 12 years of probation after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual contact with a child under 12 years old.

Prosecutors say the 46-year-old Rhoades touched a 4-year-old girl he was caring for when he lived in Eustis.

His lawyer said he pleaded guilty so the child would not have to go through a trial.

Rhoades apologized in court and said alcohol and medication were involved.

Prosecutors say the victim and her family agreed to the sentence.
