HERMISTON, Ore. (AP) - An Omaha, Neb. man is going to prison in Oregon for having sex with a girl younger than 12 more than a decade ago.
The East Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1n4NRTd ) 39-year-old Jason Michael Garcia was sentenced Friday to eight years and four months in prison. Garcia pleaded guilty last week to two counts of first-degree sodomy.
The state accused Garcia of harming the girl in September 1997 at a home in Hermiston. The victim did not report the crime for 12 years, according to court documents.
An indictment in July 2013 led to Garcia’s arrest and the charges.
Garcia also faced a felony for indecency with a child in Bexar County, Texas. The district attorney’s office there dismissed that case after Garcia entered the guilty plea.
