BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer is recovering from throat surgery.

The Hokies’ head team physician, Dr. Gunnar Brolinson, says the procedure “went as planned, without complications, and he simply needs some rest before he returns to his normal routine.”

Neither Brolinson nor the school gave further details about the nature of the procedure, or when it took place, but Brolinson says it was something that was put on hold until the end of the regular season.

The Hokies beat Virginia 24-20 in their regular season finale to qualify for a bowl game for the 22nd consecutive season.

Brolinson says Beamer, 68, will return to the practice field as soon as possible and that he expects him to be on the sidelines with the Hokies in their bowl game.
