Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth was found guilty of misdemeanor reckless driving in Fairfax County District Court on Friday and sentenced to 10 days in jail.

The charges stem from a July incident in which Werth, Washington’s starting right fielder, was caught driving 105 mph in a 55-mph zone.

Werth’s sentence includes 180 days of jail time, of which 170 days have been suspended. The 35-year-old will also have his driver’s license suspended for six months.

“We are aware of the Judge’s ruling today,” Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement. “Jayson has cooperated fully with the authorities throughout this process. As this is an ongoing legal matter, we are unable to comment any further at this time.”

Werth appealed the conviction to circuit court early Friday afternoon.
