Police arrested three teenagers Thursday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old boy who the attackers mistakenly believed was part of a rival gang.

Prince George’s County police said Crossland High School student Israel Salvador Alas was found dead Wednesday afternoon in the Tanglewood Community Park in Clinton.

On Thursday, police arrested 15-year-old Blas Rosales-Cordona, 16-year-old Marco Matute, and 16-year-old Ever Lopez, all of Temple Hills. Each of the boys are being charged with first-degree murder, county police spokesman Lt. Bill Alexander said. Other related charges are forthcoming.

Lt. Alexander could not provide details on how police have connected the three teenagers to the killing. Officials would only say that the teenagers mistakenly believed Mr. Alas was a member of a rival gang. Lt. Alexander said police have found no evidence linking Mr. Alas to any gang activity.
