Doug Elmendorf, who heads the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Congress’s non-partisan scorekeeper, is on his way out, according to reports.
U.S. News and World Report said Rep. Tom Price, Georgia Republican, wants someone new running the agency charged with figuring out the fiscal impact of proposed legislation on the Hill.
Mr. Elmendorf, first appointed to run the agency in 2009, won a four-year term in 2011, but Republicans agreed with calls from Mr. Price for a new director who might be more open to so-called “dynamic scoring” of legislation, which factors in the idea that policy changes can lead to broader economic effects and affect a bill’s projected impact on revenues and spending, Bloomberg reported.
