Patricio Garino scored 19 points and George Washington rode a dominating first half to beat DePaul 81-68 on Thursday night for its third consecutive victory.
Kevin Larsen and Joe McDonald each had 18 points, and Larsen grabbed eight rebounds for the Colonials (6-2), who held just a 7-5 lead after five minutes.
But George Washington opened a 14-point advantage over the next 10 minutes and held on to a sizeable 42-22 lead at the break.
Garino, a junior forward, went 8-for-9 from the field and had five steals. GW shot a season-best 57.1 percent, including 60 percent in the first half.
DePaul (6-2), which entered on a four-game win streak, was led by forward Myke Henry’s 22 points and six rebounds. Jamee Crockett had 16 points and Billy Garrett Jr. added 10 points and four assists for the Blue Demons, who committed 19 turnovers.
The two teams could potentially meet again at the upcoming Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii.
